Assignment #15- Final Reflection

I feel like i was able to achieve the goals that i had wanted to in the beginning of the class.  One of the goals that i would change would be my writing process i was able to change it and i am happy i did.  By improving on my writing process it will be very helpful with my future classes. I would like to keep working on how to step up my essay and have them be more focused on the thesis.  

Assignment #14- Planning for Revisions

For my portfolio I chose to revise my article analysis essay. The strengths of my third essay was that i had a really good personal respond and good ideas. The weaknesses were that my paper lacked focus and I did not have a good thesis. My conclusion was not the best.

I will revise my essay by going through and working on my focus of the paper around my thesis. I will need to look at all the paragraphs and see how they are related to the main idea. If the relationship is unclear or not organized, then  I need to revise that one paragraph. 

Assignment #11- Patterns of Error

In my writing, I tend to have a lot of run-on sentences.  I feel that I do not know when the end on my sentence comes because I am so focused on the ideas.  The only way that I feel like it can be changed is by learning when the idea is done or when it is a good time to end the sentence.
In my writing, I am always using the word because and that is so that i can feel like i am getting my points across.  I feel like i need to be able to use a different word chosen but i can only think of because.  The way it can be changed would be by looking the word up and find words that are the same meaning.
In my writing, the other thing i tend to do is not having a easy to read essay.  I am always all over the place with my ideas.  When i write i just tend to go with how my mind is thinking.  The way to help me with this would be by going though the process of re reading the essays. 

Assignment #13- Analyzing and Writing Arguments

I analyzed "Don't Presume to Know a Pig's Mind " In that essay, the writer used an sarcastic tone in order to grab the readers attentions. The tone is strong because it show people that he knows the topic so well that he can joke about it. This taught me that when picking a tone to make sure that it is something that can be trustworthy.  I know that when I read a type of essay I like it when the writer has a joke or two.  When the writer does the ending I felt like it was just an ending and was something that needed a bam at the end. I want my ending to have the pop and then end.  The other thing that I learned form the article was that have background information is that a need to have it can do without.

Assignment #12- Thinking Critically About Evidence

Most college students would benefit from moving out of their parents house in order to gain some independent and grow up.  By having a job students could gain the experience they will need for a career.  Moving out would require students to make their own money, but by staying at home they could save money.  Some parents have fights and argue a lot were can cause stress on some students and cause some problems their focus.

• I feel that the strongest evidence that I have would be stress levels because you you have parents who are arguing it gets hard to focus on the school work because the students would be worried about their parents relationship.  It is a very emotional and if a student was to decide to move out it would be because of problems at the house.
• The weakest type of evidence would be the feel of having to obtain a job because if a student gets a job they are able to get more of Independence but by doing so some students can lose focus because they are more worried about the bills and  food than worrying about their school work.

Assignment #10- Thinking Critically About Peer Review

I feel that doing a peer review is very helpful expect when we have people who are reviewing that do not understand how the essay is supposed to be reviewed.  When I try to review a paper I am confused to how reviewing works, but that is only because of my disability it is a little difficult for me to review essay.  In order for the peer review to improve what we need to do is have more than one person look at it.  We should have about three people in the class look over the essays. 

The weakest that I have is that I am unable to have problems with the grammar or the stature of the essay.  I can not find run-on or fragments.  I feel that the only strength that I have is understanding how to organize the essay and if there is more details that are needed.

What I feel would be a good peer review process would be if a person looks for the essay after I am done and is able to make sure that I do not have any types of problems with the grammar. The process would be a one on one try of thing but after one group looks at the essay we would move to a new group to form a new group and have someone else look at the essay.  I feel that if we have someone else we could get a new view for our essay.  When we have to redo the essay before we turn in the final we would do one more quick review then have the essay due on the next class. 

Assignment #9- A Helpful hint on Love

Why do we all try so hard to find someone that will love us? If you love yourself then you will be able to find the person that will love you for you. I have been able to find that person and he loves all the weirdness that I have to give to him. When I first met him I do not know that he would be the one I would want to be with forever, but here we are 3 years later and I am just high on life because I can just be myself without getting criticized about it. But not everyone is lucky the first time around.  

Sometimes you feel that you finally found that one person, but they surprise you by breaking up with you and tearing up your heart into in pieces and they do not even care about what they have done to you. Take a timeout and you look back on hoe you tried to give that person all your love you have, but they just throw it out the window. We are already chained to the fact of wanting to have the approval of the ones that you love.  Sometimes we have to leave in order to follow our dreams even if it might mean losing the one that you love, but if they love you they will be able to wait for you until you can come back to them. You have to remember that there is always going to be someone out there for you, there are a lot of fish in the sea, which is what a lot of people are always saying. If you just open your heart and show who you are yourself, you could be able to find the one that is for you, someone that will just love you.  If you are feeling that you will never find the right person then just do not look right now give your heart some time to reopen itself, and when you feel ready you will just know it by being able to feel it in your soul. So never give up on love and it will always find a way to you.

Assignment #6- Considering Rhetorical Situations

Purpose: In the literacy narrative paper, you need to share a memory of a writing or reading experience and how that has effected the way that you write in a present day.  In the ad analyze the purpose is to understand what the ad is trying to come across to others and to have people to understand the point of view of the ads.  In both kinds of essays you need your readers to understand something that affects the thesis.


Audience- In the literacy narrative, the audience is people that could have gone though the same things, or someone that wants to learn from your experience.  In the ad analysis, the audience is someone that wants to buy the ad produce and is looking at your out put of the ad.


Tone- In the Literacy narrative, the tone is a humorously or a serious.  The ad analysis tone is a s the same a serious or a more of a critical essay.


Genre- The Literacy narrative genre, there are some key features which is the purpose and the audience.  The ad analysis you need to have a summary of the ads and the purpose with the audience

Assignment #8- Thinking About Arguments

Don’t Presume to Know a Pig’s Mind

In the Article, it is about how pigs are mistreated in order for the farmer's companies to make more money.  It is a way for the rich to start rich and the poor people to stay poor.  The Chipotle website says that they only use happier pigs??? But how can you measure pigs happiest when we cannot even understand what pigs are thinking.  We do not understand what pigs like in weather at all.  They put pigs in a gestation crates that can control the amount of pregnant pigs. In order to stop the mistreatment of the pigs the price of bacon would raise which can go both ways the people would do not want animal abuse get there way but then the rich will get more money out of the poor people.  All of the big operations would be able to make the changes but all of the small farmers would be put out of the industry with this it would create more job losses and put poor people in a greater percentage. The worldwide hunger will get even higher than what they are right now which will cause more deaths in the nations.  They want the farmers to abandon methods of the production of the affordable food supplies.

I feel that the way people treat animals is something that can be important, it can help show your reasons for being an animal lover.  I picked this article because it was something that I felt would be easy to write about because it has a meaning that I can care about. As an animal lover myself I care about how animals are treated even if they will one day just be killed for our pressure to eat that type of meat. I would still like to be knew that they were treated well when they are alive.  When animals or anything is alive it is a sin to harm that animal.

Assignment #7- Reflecting on Progress

• I feel like I am making some progress on my goals for the class because I have a very wanting  to learn personality.  I have done all the steps with the writing ways which have been learned in class.  The only thing that is difficult is that the things we are writing about with the Ad is very confusing to me and I have really no idea what we are writing it about.  
• There any specific aspects of the class that I feel have been particularly helpful for me as a writer.  When we had the lecture on the run-on it was very helpful because I have a lot of trouble knowing when to stop and start a new sentence.  The way that I suture my sentence is something that I have always had some trouble with but I feel like it is getting better.
• The thing I would change about the class order to better facilitate my learning process would have to be a little bit more of giving your own review on our rough drafts.  It is hard for students to be able to guide each other the way that you will like since everybody has a different way of learning and teaching others.
• The way that my writing process is has not changed since the beginning of this semester.  I fell like I need it to change because I still always just wait to the last min. to do the work.  I will like to change the way my process is so that I can fully increase how the way I write is and I might be able to better what I am writing.
• I do not really find that my writing is improved since the semester started because I have not broken out of my shell yet.  A lot of the things we are writing about is not something that I really want to write about, so it is hard to put Do you think your 100% into a piece of writing that I have no care for.  I really want to write a story or just something that is easy bu fun at the same time.

Assignment #5- Analyzing an Advertisement

• Purpose- By having a man and a woman going into a club, they are trying to have people buy a Honda.  They are able to get into the club because of how there car looks.  It says it is a power of dreams, and a lot of people want to be rich and get the V.I.P. feeling.
• Audience- The target of the people that they are trying to get across to is a younger age of people.  You can tell because a lot of people that are in there 20s go to clubs. This is showed across by the way the people look, and you can tell because there are people looking jealous at the car.
• Genre- A lot of people do not really look for car ads and would only be seen in a sport or car magazine.  Therefore, we can tell that is it for a male to look at.  It is hard to find out the genre and compare it to other Honda ads because the only ones to compare it to is a TV ad. 
• Tone- With the colorful night life, with the text right above the car makes you have to  look at the car. The car is he only one that is a red tone and it pops out at you.

Assignment #4-Thinking Critically About Revisions

• My final paper looks different from your rough draft specifically by the fact that my essay it flows a lot better. In my rough draft my ideas are all jumbled up, but in my final draft I feel that the ideas are more easy to come across. The final draft will have a more organized feel to it.
• I made some major revisions to the organization, and my focus when I first wrote my essay I focused a lot on the introduction and not a lot of time on the content of the writing.  I feel like I needed to have more details about the poetry because I focused a lot about the disability and not a lot about a reading or writing experience.
• After revising my paper, I am able to identify my own pattern of error because as I am writing my essay I am not there completely.  All of my thoughts are in a jumble, so I just keep on writing until I am completing done with my essay.  I do not go over the work that I have just completed until a day or two before the paper is due.
• The things that guided me to make the revisions I did was the peer review and rereading your own paper aloud. The peer review helped because of the person that read my paper.  He was able to tell me some of the mistakes, and give me some tips to inspire me with bettering the thoughts that I had and to organized them in a way that people will be able to understand. 
• The aspect of my essay that I feel is the strongest would have to be the introduction and the weakest is the conclusion.

Assignment #3 "Good" Papers

Sentence Formation- One difference with an A paper and a C paper is the Sentence Formation. In a C paper there are a lot of mistakes with run-on sentences, comas, and the fragments.  For example a sentence that goes on for ever, like a 5 lined sentence.  With an A paper there would not be a run-on or a fragment.  The sentence would have a nice flow to it.

Word Choices-  Another difference with an A paper to a C paper is the type of word choices that you make.  As you start to mature you have to start using more knowledgeable in you essay.  In a C paper some of the that would be used are; got or get.  In an A paper the words used would most likely be obtain, or attended.

Description- The last difference that is really noticeable would be the descriptions.  In a C paper the writer would be lacking a lot of details and could have been very vague. Compared to an A paper that would have vivid details, and would be able to tell you the story with you being able to close your eyes and see the picture in your brain.

For me, the hardness of the three would have to be the sentence formation.  It is hard for me because I am unable to tell when I am just rambling on.  It is also hard for me to with fragments because I always do not know what to write about, so I just start a next sentence.

The easiest of the three is the word choices because it is the one that I can understand the most.  When I was in high school my one teacher was able to tell us words not to use in a paper, and how to better it with other words.

Blog assignment #2

I may write about my learning disability because I have of it I have problems with my reading and writing skills.  I find out about my disability at the age of nine.  It was very difficult from me to understand why the other kids were look at me so differently.  When going to a new school I found it hard to get along with the other kids because of the way that I would read during class. This was a significant part of my life because it helped me change the way that I felt about others and it also changed the views that I see in people.

I feel that this would be a great topic for me to write about because it had a big impact on my life.  Writing this paper could help other people that have a disability understand what it is like for a person to have one, and not let that stop them with there goals in their lives.


I may also read my essay on my senior ROTC project that I had to do in order to pass the class.  Through this essay we had to write down goals that we had planned to obtain in the future.  When i was writing it I tried to think of things that I would really wanted to happen in the future.  I also had to plan a resume that I could use for real.  It was significant because it was able to help me get ready for college and my future.

I would be able to write a paper on this because of the impact it had on my senior year.  I was able to plan out my life and what was important to me.  I still have all the writing that I have done in that point in time because i felt that if I get older I will be able to look back and see how I planned my life out in front of me.


Another topic that I could write able would have to be about my imagination because I feel that I am always thinking up stories to write about.  I have said that if I was ever to become a reading I would be really successful because of all the craziness that goes on inside of my mind.  It would be significant to write about because writing to me is a passion and to make up a story would be awesome.

I think that I would be able to write a paper on this because it is something that I am very passion about.  One of my dreams is to one day write a book about my fantasy world that is somewhere in my head.  I have always found people who write book so signification because the are able to come up with story out of no where.   

Blog assignment #1

The reason why I am taking this class writing 101 is because it will help me improve my writing and also because it will be helpful for the future career that I will have. There are some things that I need improvement on with my writing, and those things are I make a lot of grammar mistakes fragments and comma splice. This class will also be very helpful for the future career that I decide to take on because a lot of things in the world require writing. I want to become some type of doctor and I know that I will have to do some type of reports, and by taking this class on I hope that i am able to understand some methods of writing my ideas down because writing the papers out. 

There are some things that I would like to personally gain from this class such as my writing organization. When I write I just write and go with it, and I do not try to get my thoughts together, so as I write my thoughts are all messed up. Also there are some grammar problems that I have like fragment and comma splices. The problems with my comma splices are that I do not know where to put the commas at.  There is also the problem that I have with fragments and that is that I never understand when I am done with a complete thought.  I hope that I am able to get all of the help for this class this semester.
